Makonde Tribe Carved Sandalwood Figures

Introducing our Sandalwood Figures, affectionately named "The Inseparable" in their small size. These exquisite wooden sculptures are undeniably connected, as if they were crafted from the same wood, reflecting a profound unity. Featuring four figures in total, this wooden sculpture is made from Tamboti, known as African sandalwood, a favored wood type in Mozambique for carving these distinctive figures that appear to organically emerge from the wood.

When polished, the sculpture takes on a rich reddish-brown sheen, beautifully contrasting with the natural base. The artists from Mozambique add meticulous details, including colour accents and small fabric headscarves, making each sandalwood figure unique and unmistakable. Beyond being stunning African decorations, these sculptures are genuine works of art from southern Africa, showcasing the skill and artistry of the local craftsmen.
